MONTEBELLO ISLANDS
DEPARTS FROM: Exmouth, WA
DISTANCE: The journey from Exmouth to the Montebello islands is 120 nautical miles.
TRAVEL TIME: It will take approximately 14 hours to arrive.
FISHING:
The Montebello Islands offer variety and accessibility with great all-round fishing - bottom fishing, trolling, jigging popping or soft plastics.
The fish species you encounter include coral trout, rankin cod, spangled emperor, and bluebone, while the surrounding deeper waters hold Spanish mackerel, longtail tuna, sailfish, and even marlin.
The archipelago itself provides sheltered waters, making it ideal for casting lures and poppers over reef flats or light tackle jigging. It's a great all-rounder destination, suitable for both beginners and experienced anglers, with reliable action in nearly all weather conditions.
ROWLEY SHOALS
DEPARTS FROM: Broome, WA
DISTANCE: The journey from Broome to the Rowley Shoals is approximately 190 nautical miles.
TRAVEL TIME: It will take approximately 21 hours to arrive.
FISHING:
The Rowley Shoals provide great reef edge sportfishing in a stunning environment.
Consisting of three coral atolls - Imperieuse, Clarke and Mermaid Reef. You will be fishing at Clerke and Imperieuse Reefs.
Fishing here is less about bottom bashing and more about sportfishing on untouched reef edges and drop-offs. The crystal-clear waters and steep reef walls are home to massive dogtooth tuna, giant trevally, red bass, and other hard-fighting species. Fishing is often done with heavy poppers and stickbaits.
SCOTT REEF
DEPARTS FROM: Broome, WA
DISTANCE: The journey from Broome to Scott Reef is approximately 250 nautical miles.
TRAVEL TIME: It will take approximately 28 hours to arrive.
FISHING:
Ultimate remote zones, delivering big fish.
Scott Reef is less frequently fished, making it feel almost untouched. The reef structure is expansive, with deep drop-offs, channels, and bommies that attract pelagics. GTs, dogtooth tuna, sailfish, and various species of grouper and snapper are common.
The fishing typically focuses on heavy tackle popping and jigging, similar to Rowley Shoals but often with bigger fish and less fishing pressure.
